We strive to provide all the services, support, and education you need to maintain optimal oral health. The goal is to help you avoid dental issues, but you can count on the team at Trung Pham, DMD to provide the non-judgmental treatment you need if something goes wrong.
Tooth extraction is not a decision we take lightly. However, a severely decayed or infected tooth can’t remain in your mouth because there’s a risk that the infection will spread to other teeth. Dr. Pham exhausts every treatment option available to save the tooth and only recommends removal as a last resort to maintain the health and integrity of the rest of your smile.
We Put Your Comfort First
Losing a tooth to trauma, decay, or infection is difficult for anyone. It’s not just the gap in your smile; there’s an emotional component to tooth loss that may leave you feeling embarrassed, ashamed, and self-conscious.
At our San Jose dental office, we understand, and our team does everything we can to smooth out the bumps, so you have a comfortable experience with as little stress as possible. In addition to compassionate care, we offer blankets, neck pillows, and lumbar support pillows to add an extra layer of comfort to your experience.
Why We Recommend Tooth Extraction
There are several instances where Dr. Pham may determine that extraction is in your best interest:
- Severe tooth decay or trauma – If the damage is beyond repair, extraction is the only option to protect your oral health.
- Infection – If bacteria reaches the innermost portion of your tooth and a root canal can’t resolve it, we would recommend extraction
- Advanced gum disease – Without treatment, gum disease attacks the supporting structures of your tooth, causing it to loosen, and extraction may be necessary.
- Problematic wisdom teeth – Wisdom teeth are too far back in the mouth to clean correctly, which puts them at risk for decay and gum disease. They also tend to cause crowding, and because wisdom teeth don’t serve any real purpose, extraction is often recommended to prevent further problems.
