Children’s Dentistry

We love welcoming children to our dental practice! As the father of a young daughter, Dr. Pham has a special affinity for children and understands their unique needs. We feel honored when parents choose us as a dental home for their children because it gives us an opportunity to make a lasting positive impact on their future oral health.

Dr. Pham likes to start seeing children around age one or when their first baby teeth appear. Starting kids early on is the best way to help them avoid developing the type of dental anxiety that plagues many adults. So, we won’t rush your child and will let them dictate the pace of treatment. The purpose of the first few visits is to help your child become accustomed to our team as well as the sights and sounds of a dental office. This way, when it’s time for us to start their dental care, they will feel comfortable and secure in their surroundings.

Keeping baby teeth healthy is critical even though they will eventually come out because they hold space open for permanent teeth developing in your child’s jaw. If a baby tooth is lost too soon because of decay, neighboring teeth start to drift into the space causing the permanent tooth to emerge at odd angles that require orthodontic treatment in the future to correct.

If it’s time for your child’s first visit or you have questions about children’s dentistry in San Jose, please call our office to arrange an appointment.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Many of us have something we'd like to change about our smiles. Whether you would like your teeth to look shorter, longer, whiter, or straighter, cosmetic dentistry at our San Jose dental office offers the solution you need.

At the office of Trung Pham, DMD, we can address a wide range of aesthetic dental issues. Some of the problems we correct with cosmetic dentistry include:

  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Teeth that appear too short or too long
  • Poorly shaped teeth
  • Wide gaps and uneven spacing
  • Severely stained or discolored teeth
  • Mildly misaligned teeth

Your smile says a lot about you before you speak a word, so you want to make sure it's sending the right message. In your case, a smile makeover may be as simple as a professional teeth whitening treatment. Or, you may be interested in completely transforming your smile by combining several services to design a stunning new smile.

If you're unhappy with the way your teeth look and you conceal your smile, business associates may see you as being unfriendly or unhappy. It's unfortunate, but people do make snap judgments about us based on our appearance, and having a healthy, beautiful smile opens doors by allowing you to interact confidently with others.

We invite you to arrange a smile consultation to learn more about all the options we offer and how they can benefit you.

Crowns and Bridges

Typically, it does not hurt to get a crown.

It usually take about 10 working days from start to finish.

If the crown is old but has no defect then it is still functional and does not need replacement. However, if it is broken or defective then it is recommended to have it replaced.

A crown is placed to protect, cover and restore damaged teeth when a cavity is too large for a filling. A bridge is a dental restoration that fills the space where one or more teeth are missing.

Dental Implants

A dental implant replaces a missing tooth and is as close to a natural tooth as possible in terms of form, function, and appearance. The implant is a small titanium post that is placed surgically in your jaw and allowed to heal for several months. During this period, the implant integrates securely with surrounding bone and tissue in your jaw and becomes a permanent part of your dental structure. When healing is complete, Dr. Pham will restore the implant with a crown, bridge, or denture.

There are several benefits to choosing a dental implant for tooth replacement.

The presence of a natural tooth root stimulates the regeneration of bone in the jaw. However, a tooth and its natural root, a process called resorption begins, and the bone starts to deteriorate. If we don't replace the tooth and bone loss continues, it ultimately threatens the health and stability of surrounding healthy teeth.

Worse yet, the loss of bone removes support for your facial muscles and can make you appear older than you are. However, a dental implant placed in your jaw after tooth loss continues to stimulate healthy bone growth and prevents the jaw bone from deteriorating.

If you are looking for a healthy solution for tooth replacement in San Jose, please call our dental office at (408) 287-8880 to arrange a consultation with Dr. Pham.

Digital X-Rays

Dental x-rays are an essential diagnostic tool that provides detailed images of the inside of your tooth that we can't see with a visual exam. Most dental problems start inside the teeth or under the gums, and x-rays allow us to identify and treat them long before they cause discomfort or compromise your oral health.

But we understand the concerns that our patients have about unnecessary exposure, so we use state-of-the-art digital x-rays. Some reasons we choose digital x-rays are:

  • They reduce your radiation exposure by about 70 percent compared to film x-rays
  • The images are available immediately, so you don’t have to wait for films to be developed
  • The highly-detailed nature of the images allows us both to see problems in their earliest stages.
  • We can manipulate the images and make them larger or smaller so you can see the problem in detail.
  • Since the images are digital, we don't have to dispose of any harmful chemicals.

If you have a high risk of cavities, the American Dental Association recommends bitewing x-rays at least every 18 months. Those who care for their teeth and have no ongoing conditions can go two years or longer between x-rays. But only you and Dr. Pham can determine what the optimal frequency of x-rays is in your case.

You can be confident that your safety is of the utmost importance to us, and we will never recommend x-rays without explaining why they’re needed and what we can learn from them. If it’s time for your routine checkup or you have questions about digital x-rays, please call our San Jose dental office to arrange an appointment.

General Dentistry

The majority of the time tooth decay and gum disease will not cause any symptoms until it is too late. If we don’t detect and treat these issues early on during a routine checkup, they can seriously damage your oral health.

During your preventive exams and dental cleanings at our San Jose dental office, Dr. Pham thoroughly evaluates your oral health for signs of tooth decay. He also takes gum measurements to assess your periodontal health and updates your medical history. As part of your preventive care, Dr. Pham takes blood pressure readings annually and makes recommendations as necessary based on the readings.

The general rule of thumb is to visit us twice a year for preventive checkups. However, if you have a history of decay or gum disease or other ongoing issues, Dr. Pham may recommend more frequent check-ins.

Prevention is the key to a healthy smile and minimizing the cost of dental care. When we find problems in their earliest stages, we can choose the most conservative and affordable options to treat them. If it’s time for your routine checkup, please call San Jose dentist Dr. Trung Pham to arrange a dental appointment.

We look forward to being partners in your oral health care!
